about

Hailing from Nizhniy Novgorod, Russia, the band whose name translates into Green Uncle and the Black Hole Surfers offers up a fuzzed out, punked up take on space rock complete with; vocals buried in effects, fast paced drums, playful guitars, and melodic synth lines. The mix of energetic rock music and catchy melodies makes for a fresh take on the spacier side of the fuzz rock genre.

They describe themselves as new wave of psychedelic rock, taking inspiration from bands a diverse as Can and Lightning Bolt. Both references make sense when you listen to the music, but still Green Uncle and the Black Hole Surfers only sound like themselves. The music is both intense and catchy and feels like it has no time to waste. The last track on the album, which also the most experimental for the band, also features a guest appearance by the vocalist of the renowned Russian post-punk band Dosvidosh.

In Russia the band has received lots of support by more prominent bands and promotors. In 2022, the band was supposed to perform at the Pain festival on the same stage as Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, King Krule, Mac Demarco, BadBadNotGood, slowthai, Viagra Boys and many others. In 2022 the festival was cancelled due to the war between Ukraine and Russia. A war that the band are avid opponents of.
In their hometown of Nizhniy Novgorod, the band is known for their work at the underground club Tago)) Mago)), a diy-club that has hosted more than 500 musical artists over the last 6 years. In December they will enter the studio again to record a collection on heavy psych anti-war songs.
